David Vaughan, Knoxville, TN My characteristic are telling pigeon breast, arched palate, double-jointed fingers, elongated thumb, 13AAAA shoe size, crowded teeth, narrow jaw, 6'2", long arms, asthma, etc. Last year a CT scan revealed a 5+cm abdominal aortic aneurysm which I had repaired. Recovery was quick and I'm doing fine. I also had a retinal tear 4 years ago which required a scleral buckle to repair in the eye which was myopic and has had no fusion since birth. Over the last 2 years I've had 2 cataract surgeries to correct sight difficulties. My dad who died at 74 with a brain tumor had many of the Marfan characteristics (unbeknown to him) as well as a brother and sister. My sister's children show signs of being marf-like as do my brother's kids. By the way, I was the bearer of the news to my brother and sister; their grateful and taking action. I am fortunate to recieve medical care from an internist in Knoxville who lost his wife 5 years ago to complications from Marfan syndrome on her third aortic root surgery. I live every day to its fullest, travel a lot with my lovely wife, and work hard. I must say that making the discovery that I did has had a profoundly positive impact on my life since I now cherish people, life, happy moments with family and myself more than ever.
