Raw Faith running on faith - and fumes

Raw Faith running on faith - and fumes
... "McKay's daughter, Liz, uses a wheelchair to combat the effects of Marfan's syndrome, which weakens the body's connective tissue. Spurred by this, Brugh said, McKay and his family sold their possessions in Addison to build the Raw Faith."
Thanks, Nancy!

Bruce England on Jeopardy!

Okay, this is not about the Marfan syndrome. However, it is about the husband of Ellen England, who is very active in the Marfan syndrome community. I would be posting this reminder on Marfan-List, but the List is down right now and for the foreseeable future. (It should be up this weekend, but it's hard to tell. When Isabel came through here in Virginia last year, some places were without power for two weeks). In any case, Monday, September 13, Bruce England will be on Jeopardy, so all of you who know him from NMF conferences and Northern California Chapter cookouts, be sure to watch!

Marfan-List is down

Nick (who has the servers where Marfan-List is held) lost power again, and says the power may be out this time for several days. This is what would normally be a simple power outage, fixed in a couple hours, but all the power workers in Florida have a prioritized list of what goes up when. Nick's neighborhood, unfortunately, is quite low on the list. He'll write to the list when it comes back up. (The Marfan-List web pages, where I have a blog for Marfan-List problems, are also down, and I'm going to be moving that blog to a this domain once it comes back up so I can inform people when the list is down due to a long power outage. Should have thought of that a long time ago, duh!)

Court dismisses man's plea for caning review - SEPT 7, 2004: "At last month's hearing, Tan's counsel had argued that he should be spared the cane as there was still an inherent risk of death or serious injury if he was caned.
But in his judgment yesterday, Justice Choo Han Teck said that under the Criminal Procedure Code, no strokes would be given unless a doctor were present and certified the offender fit to undergo caning."

Tall Paul's Tall Mall

Alameda Times-Star Online - Bay Area Living: "But the store, Tall Paul's Tall Mall, founded in 1999 by Hartmann, is really designed with the tall in mind. Although business was rocky at first -- forming partnerships with manufacturers that might have to make five products in an order rather than 500 was difficult -- Hartmann is now in the black. That's gratifying to the 50-year-old architect and teacher at Vermont Technical College, who started the business in his spare time. "
Way to go, Paul!
